every now and then i remember this website and i’ll go and have a looksee, just to see what’s out there and available. but today as i visited the site, i suddenly realized that what i need right now isnt idealism. i need practicalism. oopsies, is that not a word? tough. should be a website though. for someone who’s pushing into her late 20s, my days of being an idealist, evidently, are long, long gone. and i need and want a job that reflects that. i can no longer work for meager, meager wages and unpaid overtime even if what i do is good. that reason seems no longer to be enough. is that really what being an idealist is all about anyways- why arent we able to make a difference, contribute positively to society, and work at an interesting job while getting decent financial compensation for it as well? and why is being an idealist in the workplace automatically associated with non-profits? who still goes to idealist.org to look for jobs? and if you look, do you also apply? or have you, like me, moved on from this website? outgrown it, if you will. the jobs still sound pretty cool, the organizations are all interesting… so what is preventing me from seriously considering anything i find in their job search?

going to that website almost makes me feel as silly as walking into a forever21 store. almost. what am i thinking and expecting, really. i don’t know what i’ll be getting out of it (though sometimes there might be a few short-lived choice finds) and everyone shopping there is many years younger than me. they can pull it off, i cannot. or can’t bring myself to anyways. so what is the natural progression from idealist to practicalist? and who is going to build me a job search website based around that principle!
